Reciprocation

Another interesting observation today…

So if someone asks you for something when do you just freely give it? So I decided to ask over the last few weeks for reciprocation in kind as I have been getting a kind of message on this platform for my time. Personally I’m not sure who the best advocates are for me and I’ve learned the hard way how to pick better people. (18 month view from others)(learning cycles being delimited by “best intentions”)

I heard a monk speak recently on advice he gave to a friend who was often sought after for their knowledge in a given field. Their Issue was that they didn’t know how to prioritize all the requests and filter out who was more worth their time.

The advice was to give a task depending on the known or assumed gravity of the request. For example if it’s a very big request or you know this is a really needy person do you offer a bigger assignment or test to be able to get your time first. This allows you to be open and available but at the same time allowing the incentives of others to filter.

You could say, “before we get together I’d like you to take a look at something”. It could be simple however hopefully reflective of what I’ve aforementioned. So, let the investment of others filter your time for you.

So pairing this with a book called “the power of a positive no” I’m really encouraged by some of the recent results that I have noticed from this technique.
