Imagine this,
You just heard the alert as it went out,
“Calling all cars, calling all cars…”
Oh no, it couldn’t be, not that.
You don’t have to think, you just go,
In slides the break as you engage drive,
Flying to the scene like “a bat out of hell”.
The car tires squeal around the corner,
You can see it, what you feared the most,
Yet, in an instant you hit the gas harder.
Like a leviathan, it beckons you forward,
You know what you must do, it is your dream,
What you must become, unto yourself.
A roar emits itself into the night, yours,
It awaits you, and brings you to yourself,
Never to be forgotten, only forgiven.
Why? Why in face of your deepest fear would you rocket to the scene of something? Why would you respond in such a manner as to rise to occasion?
“Calling all cars, calling all cars, calling all cars there is a __________ in progress”! What is that thing that you fill in the blank with? The thing you respond to that makes you feel alive and would protect at all costs? What awaits for you, the thing that calls you that scares the heck out of you?
This was fun to write and is a great thought experiment in the story. Thank you to the following for the inspiration. Much love to those like us!
